About Me

My name is Elizabeth! I grew up all over the United States and have always had my hands on something creative: writing, drawing, embroidery, jewelry making; you name it! After earning a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Eastern Michigan University, I spent years working some of the least creative jobs in the world before deciding to go back to school for what I am really passionate about!
As someone who has always been considered a little "weird," "quirky," and "backwards," I established Widdershins Spa as a salon concept catering to the needs of those going "The wrong way around." I am dedicated to creating a safe and LGBT+ affirming space, as well as offering accommodations for sensory concerns that neurodivergent clients often find ignored. Currently I am only offering nail services, but I plan to expand my service menu in the coming months!
What to expect during your visit
Going to a new nail salon can cause some anxiety, especially if you're not a frequent flyer, so here are some details that will hopefully make your first visit more comfortable!Arrival:
Widdershins Spa is located in a converted industrial loft. The outside can look intimidating, but inside our salon is a beautiful, spacious room with old wood and a big skylight! The closest door to the salon is 3717. There are big white letters on the door, and it is just to the right of the yellow pylons marking the service entrance. To the left of the door is a callbox. When you book, I will give you a door code. You will enter that here, and the door should automatically buzz open. If it dosen't, just call me at 872-221-0227!Inside, you will go up the stairs and turn left down the hallway. Our suite is the only one with a table and tree outside of it. If the door is closed, you can open it. If the door is locked, knock loudly!I will be in the back room to the right. There is no door, so if the curtain is open, you can come right in. If the curtain is closed, please wait on the yellow couch until I come get you.Consultation:
At your first appointment, we will take about 10-15 minutes to discuss your nail history and goals. I will ask about allergies you may have to products I commonly use and any sensory accommodations you may need.
We will also talk about what kind of service you want, what length and shape works best for you, and whether you want a color polish.
At every appointment, I will inspect your nails prior to performing any service. As a licensed Cosmetologist, I am only allowed by the State of Illinois to perform cosmetic services on healthy, unbroken skin.
- If there is any sign of nail infection or open wounds, I won't be able to continue with the service. Don't worry! Most nail issues are easily treatable by your primary care doctor and/or time. I will let you know if you need to make an appointment with them, or if we can just reschedule when any minor injuries have healed.
- If you are unsure about whether to come in, send me an email and I can do a quick photo consultation to assess the general health of your nails. The in-person consultation will be the final word, however.
- If you need time to have an issue with your hands or feet seen to, we can discuss your next steps and reschedule at that point.
- If we are proceeding to the service, we will review what services are planned. I will let you know exactly what the price will be up front so there are no surprises when it's time to check out!Nail Service:
The service provided can vary depending on what your needs are. A basic manicure or pedicure is about 30 minutes and will include:
- washing your hands and scrubbing under the nail for a manicure, or application of an antiseptic spray and gentle brushing for a pedicure
- nail clipping and/or filing for length and shape
- Gentle removal of excessive dead cuticle with an orangewood stick
- moisturizing lotion application
- pedicures will include a towel dry and application of a talc-free baby powder
- a soft-shine buff suitable for all genders
Adding on a spa service takes an additional 30 minutes and will include all of the above, plus:
- responsible removal of excess cuticle with orangewood stick or metal cuticle nippers
- skin-softening collagen mask with hot towel
- for pedicures, reasonable callus reduction
- hand/foot massage with optional aromatherapy
Adding a nail polish service takes 10-15 extra minutes and includes:
- base coat, two color coats, and top coat of conventional polish
Adding a BioSculpture structured gel or gel extension manicure can add up to 60 minutes and includes:
- Vitamin Dose strengthening nail treatment
- non-damaging nail plate prep
- custom formulated structural gel base, extension, or tip
Structured manicures and extensions are offered with both conventional polish and BioGel color options. We will discuss which options fits your needs during your consultation!
Nail art is priced by time instead of by nail, so costs can vary, except for a French Tip (in any color) which takes 20 extra minutes and is a flat $10 additional. We will discuss your options during the consultation.Check-out:
When your service is over, I will go over nail maintenence and a short list of do's and don't's to help maintain your manicure. Then, we will review the service performed and you can pay with cash or via Zelle, Venmo, Cashapp, or Paypal.
- If we're performing a complicated nail art or extension service over $200, we can discuss other payment options if needed.
- If paying by cash, you can just hand it over! I suggest bring smaller bills as I may not always have change.
- If paying via an app, there will be a sign with QR codes on it. You can select your app, scan the QR code, and follow the in-app directions to send the correct amount.
Once I confirm receipt, you can be on your way with your fresh manicure or pedicure (or both!)
